Course Requirements

Students studying the Second Major in Accounting Data and Analytics will take four compulsory courses in data technology to equip themselves with the basic analytics skill-sets. They will then apply these skill-sets in the accounting context by taking three analytics electives. Lastly, students will complete a compulsory capstone course under the SMU-X experiential learning pedagogy.

COMPULSORY COURSES

Learn about the analysis, design and use of accounting information systems through key concepts such as the role of internal control in an accounting system; documentation of accounting information systems; database management, business processes and modeling; and the role of accounting information systems in major processes of the business cycle.

Build a strong foundation in understanding fundamental data management concepts such as database design and implementation in current business information systems, and some basic concepts related to unstructured data.

Learn how to automate and improve accounting processes. You will also use a visualisation software to analyse, model and present complex data via interactive dashboards for decision making in the accounting context.

Acquire knowledge in applying statistical theory for analysing data that is crucial to all four stages of analytics (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive) with the R programming language.

SMU-X (COMPULSORY)
