Message from the Assoc Dean (Research)

At SOAR, we are committed to conducting impactful accounting research that is relevant to academics, industry partners, regulators, and society. By collaborating with scholars both within Singapore and globally, we address societal challenges through our research efforts.

The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the accounting profession. AI technologies are enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of accounting processes, enabling real-time data analysis, and providing deeper insights into financial trends. At SOAR, we are dedicated to exploring the potential of AI to revolutionize accounting and ensure that accounting continues to play a vital role in capital markets. Our faculty members have examined whether and how investors use generative AI for trading-related tasks and the subsequent impact on stock price informativeness.

Another key research area for us is sustainability. We are committed to developing and implementing accounting practices that not only enhance transparency and accountability but also contribute to the long-term well-being of our financial systems and communities. Our faculty members have investigated the role of Scope 3 emissions disclosure in promoting more sustainable supply chains and examined how commercial ties can bias sustainability ratings issued by major rating agencies. Their work is well-recognized by the international academic community and has received various prestigious awards.

In addition, we are actively working to combat misinformation in capital markets. In today's digital age, the spread of false information can have serious consequences for investors and markets. Our team is dedicated to developing strategies and tools to identify, analyze, and mitigate the effects of misinformation in capital markets. By promoting accurate and reliable financial information, we aim to empower investors and stakeholders to make informed decisions.

We believe that by emphasizing interdisciplinary research, sustainability, combating misinformation, and integrating AI, we can enhance the role of accounting in capital markets and make a positive impact on the world.
