- Cheng Qiang, Lee Kong Chian Chair Professor of Accounting, has been recognised on Stanford University’s list of “World’s Top 2%” scientists. This ranking identifies the most cited scholars in their fields and highlights researchers whose work has had a significant impact across various scientific disciplines.
Learn More - Lin Pengkai, Assistant Professor of Accounting, featured in the Feb 2026 Issue of Research@SMU, in the article "Generative AI and the stock market: How ChatGPT downtime moves shares". He and his research collaborators published research which showed that stock trading volume fell significantly during ChatGPT outages, suggesting a considerable use of generative artificial intelligence by investors.

As a panelist on the roundtable “AI for Good and Development in Southeast Asia”, Prof Wang emphasised that the “black-box” decision-making nature of AI agents complicates accountability - when system decisions go wrong, it remains unclear whether responsibility should lie with developers, deployers, end users or other possible stakeholders.

Faculty Appointments beyond SOA
- Gary Pan, Professor of Accounting (Education), Associate Provost for Lifelong Learning and Associate Dean (Student & Alumni Matters) at SOA, has been appointed to the Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) Board of Governors and the NYP Audit Committee from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2029.
- Seow Poh Sun, Professor of Accounting (Education) and Associate Dean (Undergraduate Education) at SOA, has been appointed External Examiner at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
- Yuanto Kusnadi, Associate Professor of Accounting (Education) and Academic Director (SMU-X), has been appointed to the Institute of Valuers & Appraisers Singapore (IVAS) Learning Assessment Working Group (LAWG) from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.
