SEOW Poh Sun
Dr Seow Poh Sun is Professor of Accounting (Education) and Associate Dean (Teaching and Curriculum) of the School of Accountancy at Singapore Management University. His teaching and research interests are in accounting information systems, accounting data & analytics, behavioural issues in accounting and accounting education. He is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of Singapore and Fellow of CPA Australia.
Dr Seow has won several international and local teaching and research awards. He was the first Singaporean to receive Outstanding Accounting Educator Award in 2023 from the American Accounting Association. The award is presented to educators with sustained contributions that have significantly impacted accounting education or accounting educators, with sustained and substantive contributions from a wide variety of academic institutions. In 2022, he was the first awardee for the Accounting Education Excellence Award from the European Accounting Association. The award highlights excellent practices in Accounting Education which address thought leadership in the field through innovation and cutting-edge practices in pedagogy, technology, and content. He was also the first academic in Asia to receive the Howard Teall Award for Innovation in Accounting Education (First Prize) in 2020 from the Canadian Academic Accounting Association for his video-learning project to teach internal controls. He also received the American Accounting Association (AAA) Outstanding Instructional Contribution Award in 2018 for developing an online tutorial to teach database modelling. He also received the AAA Jim Bulloch Award for Innovations in Management Accounting Education in 2017 and the AAA Innovation in Accounting Education Award in 2015, for his award-winning mobile learning app Accounting Challenge (ACE). He and his collaborators were the first academic in Asia to win the three awards from AAA. Dr Seow was the joint first faculty member to receive the inaugural SMU Teaching Excellence Hall of Fame Award in 2024 for receiving at least five SMU Undergraduate and/or Postgraduate Teaching Excellence Awards.
