As the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) programme celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, the MPA SMU Accounting Masters Ambassador Committee (SAMAC) decided to commemorate this significant milestone by giving back to the community.

Our students at the School of Accountancy are encouraged to pursue their interests beyond the academic and many demonstrate excellence in these pursuits. We highlight a few of their achievements from June to September 2026.

While interning at the Ministry of Law, Nicole Poon (Accountancy student), Toh Yue Tai (Accountancy student) and Ong Jun Quan (Law student) noticed that many people were navigating complex legal processes without a lawyer. Drawing on their backgrounds in Law and Accountancy, they turned that insight into LegalSave, an award-winning proposal to support Singapore’s underserved “legal middle”.

Lee Kong Chian School of Business Student Jovis Ngiam discovers that there is much more to the ASM than learning about accounting. From shaping his career direction to making new lasting friendships, Jovis shares more about his experience at the ASM to Thailand.

SMU PhD in Accounting candidate Chen Yanduo recounts his experiences while on a research visit to the Frankfurt School of Business and Management.

SMU Bachelor of Accountancy student James Chia may only be in his final year, but has set his sights on his career goal - research and the academia. Even before graduation, James has successfully secured a pre-doctoral fellowship at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.

As new AI technologies emerge, SMU School of Accountancy is committed to equipping our Accountancy students with the tools to navigate both the possibilities and risks these technologies introduce. In January 2026, we launched the new course "AI Literacy for Accounting Professionals", which was developed in consultation with AI Singapore and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy.
