School and Industry Highlights

This year, SMU School of Accountancy celebrates 25 illustrious years of building impact in the accounting industry, while nurturing generations of leaders who are ready to drive transformation in tomorrow's accounting landscape.

Singapore Management University’s School of Accountancy (SOA) has once again clinched World Number 1 for Archival Research (Financial Accounting) at the latest Brigham Young University (BYU) Accounting Research Rankings 2025 (released in February 2026).

SMU School of Accountancy has partnered Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic to offer the University Accelerated Pathway programme (UAP) for polytechnic students with effect from 2026.

In October 2025, students of the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) and Master of Science in Accounting (Data & Analytics) (MSA) programmes at SMU School of Accountancy (SOA) visited the A*STAR Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment (A*STAR ISCE²) on Jurong Island — Singapore’s national research hub for sustainable energy, chemicals, and low-carbon innovation.

On 1 November 2025, the SMU School of Accountancy (SOA) faculty, students and alumni from the Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) and Master of Science in Accounting (Data & Analytics) (MSA) Programmes took part in Walk of a Lifetime 2025, an annual autism advocacy event organised by St Andrew’s Autism Centre (SAAC).

A delegation from the Singapore Management University (SMU) School of Accountancy (SOA) visited several leading universities across China in December 2025, to reaffirm and expand the School’s academic partnerships in areas such as curriculum alignment and admissions.

Singapore Management University (SMU) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement to launch a joint Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme — a landmark initiative that brings together two leading Asian institutions to redefine high-end management education.

As new AI technologies emerge, SMU School of Accountancy is committed to equipping our Accountancy students with the tools to navigate both the possibilities and risks these technologies introduce. In January 2026, we launched the new course "AI Literacy for Accounting Professionals", which was developed in consultation with AI Singapore and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy.

On the evening of December 4th, over 40 alumni of Singapore Management University (SMU) School of Accountancy gathered in the city of Beijing for an evening of networking and meaningful discussion. The alumni attendees, which included both young professionals and seasoned industry leaders, came from various sectors such as the finance, technology, and energy sectors.
