AI is a credibility problem for capital markets

Hosted this year by Nanyang Technological University (NTU), the annual Tri-University conference brings together faculty members from SMU, NTU and the National University of Singapore (NUS) and serves as a platform for the exchange of research ideas and constructive feedback between junior and senior scholars.
SMU Accountancy graduate Kunal Doshi discovered his interest in crypto during his second year in the School of Accountancy. Today, he finds his background in accounting highly relevant to his current role in a crypto firm, and the soft skills gained in SMU serving him well for his frequent public speaking engagements.
As new AI technologies emerge, SMU School of Accountancy is committed to equipping our Accountancy students with the tools to navigate both the possibilities and risks these technologies introduce. In January 2026, we launched the new course "AI Literacy for Accounting Professionals", which was developed in consultation with AI Singapore and Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy.
Our students at the School of Accountancy are encouraged to pursue their interests beyond the academic and many demonstrate excellence in these pursuits. We highlight a few of their achievements over the past year.
Lee Kong Chian Chair Professor of Accounting, Cheng Qiang, has been recognised on Stanford University’s list of “World’s Top 2%” scientists on the 'World's Top 2% Scientists Network'.
Singapore Management University (SMU) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement to launch a joint Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme — a landmark initiative that brings together two leading Asian institutions to redefine high-end management education.
SMU School of Accountancy has partnered Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic to offer the University Accelerated Pathway programme (UAP) for polytechnic students with effect from 2026.
On 12 November 2025, SMU hosted the inaugural SMU Alumni Awards 2025 which mark the University’s highest recognition of alumni achievement and will be conferred every five years. We highlight the 2025 winners from SMU School of Accountancy.
