Associate Dean (Teaching and Curriculum), Associate Professor of Accounting (Education) Seow Poh Sun was presented with the inaugural Pearson Innovation in Accounting Education Award 2018, at the SIT Symposium on Application of Technologies in Accounting Education held on 29 June 2018.
The SIT Symposium was co-organised with the ASEAN Accounting Education Workgroup (AAEW), on the sidelines of the 7th AAEW Meeting. The AAEW was formed with the vision to innovate ASEAN higher education accounting programs and train the next generation of ASEAN graduates who can compete in the global accounting market. The AAEW hold a conference/meeting twice a year.
This year, the Pearson Innovation in Accounting Education Award was introduced at the Symposium with the intention to recognise and encourage educators to innovate in ASEAN accounting education. The award recipient must demonstrate educational innovation in the study of accounting, with evidence of the merit of this innovation and scale of adoption of this technology by other institutions.
Associate Professor Seow shared his thoughts on winning this award, “I am honoured to receive the Pearson Innovation in Accounting Education Award. Students are increasingly becoming more digital-savvy and as educators, we aspire to deliver a technologically-enhanced learning experience to optimise student engagement. To this end, I have developed various learning approaches such as a mobile-gaming app, a video-learning project and online tutorials. This award is an affirmation of my efforts and inspires me to continue developing new innovative teaching pedagogies.”
Dr Nanny Dewi, President of the Asean Accounting Education Workgroup (AAEW) commented, “The Pearson Innovation in Accounting Education Award was introduced to encourage innovation and improvement in ASEAN accounting education. Associate Professor Seow Poh Sun’s dedication to the development of innovative teaching pedadogies has transformed the learning experience for his students.
