Since our inception in 2001, SMU School of Accountancy (SoA)  has been committed to driving accounting thought leadership and innovation, as well as educating the next generation of accounting professionals, through strong collaboration with our industry partners.  

This year, we celebrate 25 illustrious years of building impact in the accounting industry, while nurturing generations of leaders who are ready to drive transformation in tomorrow's accounting  landscape.

As we cross into our 25th year, we are pleased to showcase the following events and activities we have lined up for 2026 in celebration of this significant milestone.

SOA 25th Anniversary and MPA 20th Anniversary Event

The School of Accountancy hosted our SOA 25th Anniversary and MPA 20th Anniversary Event on Friday, 15 May 2026.  

Attended by close to 200 members of the SOA community, including our industry partners, pioneering and current faculty, as well as alumni and students from all programmes, the event was a valuable opportunity for old friends and acquaintances to re-connect while fostering new relationships with other members of the SOA community. Centred on our main theme “Building Impact and Empowering Tomorrow”,  the event programme was designed to bring our guests on a journey through the past, to the present and to look forward towards the future of SOA.

SMU-ZJU DBA Alumni Chapter in Gobi To West 2026 

The SMU-ZJU DBA Alumni Chapter is the first SMU programme to participate in the annual Gobi-To-West event held in China. The SMU delegation was led by Dean of School of Accountancy, Lee Kong Chian Professor of Accounting Liandong Zhang and DBA Programme Lead, Ms Liu Fei. Gobi-To-West is an annual event exclusively for top executive education programmes around the world and the 2026 edition was held from 29 April to 4 May 2026. The SMU-ZJU DBA Alumni team, who competed with other teams to complete a 58-KM trek across the Gobi desert, Gansu Province, China, was presented the "Model ESG Team Award" at the end of the event. The award recognises their sustainability efforts throughout their 58-KM trek.

Global Immersion Competition@SMU

Partnering Student Services Consultancy (SSC) Tours & Travel, SMU School of Accountancy (SOA) Professional Hub co-organised the inaugural Global Immersion Competition@SMU from 28 June to 5 July this year. The programme hosted international students from around Asia, where they attended programmes and workshops designed to impart entrepreneurial, accounting, and strategic business competencies that foster innovation, and a readiness to develop and present viable business solutions.

The Global Immersion Competition@SMU presented an opportunity for the SOA Professional Hub to collaborate closely with industry partners on a programme that nurtures adaptability, innovation, and leadership across Asia.

2nd Singapore-China Accounting Leaders Dialogue

The School of Accountancy is proud to host The 2nd Singapore-China Accounting Leaders Dialogue 2026: Sustainability Reporting in Practice: Standards, Assurance, and the Future of the Profession on 15 September 2026. Jointly held with Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) and Xiamen National Accounting Institute (XNAI), this is a premier platform convening policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders from Singapore and China to explore the future of sustainability reporting and professional development.

Conference on Digital Transformation of Financial Markets 2026

Held every two years, the Conference on Digital Transformation of Financial Markets brings together industry experts, regulators, and academics to provide insights into complex and pressing issues driving financial markets. This year, the Conference will be held on 26 October 2026, and will focus on the theme of “Agentic AI and Human Collaboration in Financial Markets." The forum will dive into how AI is reshaping financial services such as audit/assurance, risk management and consulting, as well as the various applications of agentic AI and human collaboration.

Singapore Accounting Symposium (SAS) 2026

The 2nd Edition of the Singapore Accounting Symposium will be held on 10 and 11 December 2026 and hosted in SMU this year. Jointly organized by Singapore Management University (SMU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Symposium aims to advance accounting research and foster innovation across the Asia-Pacific region.
